Here are some troubleshooting steps you may want to try. Quite possibly its one of your installed programs which may be interfering with the smooth functioning of explorer.exe. You may have to try them all. Hopefully one should help you. If an option doesn't help you, don't forget to restore it back to its default, where applicable & possible

1) First and foremost ensure that your Windows is updated and scan your computer for virus and spyware. Follow it up with a Registry Cleaner run. CCleaner is a safe and good freeware. If you have bought a new laptop, maybe some pre-installed craplets are interfering ith explorer.exe. Remove unwanted trialware and de-crapify your machine then.

2) Run ChkDsk.

3) See if you a System Restore makes the problem go away.

4) Disable the Preview Pane in Explorer and see if it helps. To disable the Preview Pane, click Organize > Layout > Preview Pane.

5) Disable UAC and see if it helps.

6) Disable DEP or NoExecute Protection. Do note that Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs. These types of attacks can harm your programs and files. DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you. It is as such a security feature. Type cmd in Vista's search bar. Rt click on search results 'cmd' and click on Run as Administrator. Then copy paste

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

and hit enter. Reboot. This has been known to help in some earlier versions of Vista.

7) Open Explorer. Click Organize > Folder & Search Options > View > Advanced Settings > check 'Launch folder windows in a separate process' > Apply > OK.

8) Check if you have installed any helpers or add-ons to your explorer. Uninstall them. Often, even 3rd party shell extensions can cause Explorer to crash on particular actions. Several programs add items to the right click context menu. Download freeware utility ShellExView.

It will let you view & disable suspect 3rd party shell extensions. Using Trial & Error method, you may to disable / enable the extensions to try and identify if any of them are causing a problem. ShellExView can be also be used for solving contextmenu problems in Explorer, like, say, if the Right-click is slow.

9) Run sfc /scannow and at the end reboot if asked for.

10) Type wercon in your Start Menu Search bar and hit enter to open the Problem Reports & Solutions Center. In RHS panel click on View Problem History and navigate to where the problems for Explorer.exe may be mentioned. Double click on the report to open it and see if anything there helps you

Adopt a substitute habit … Of course, make it a healthy or at least neutral one, such as drinking tea (use the loose-leaf kind for the ceremony of it), chewing sugarless gum, etc.
Change your routine … Fill your time differently so you’re more aware of eating. If you’re a TV-time muncher, put on exercise clothes when you get home, and do stretches, leg lifts, and crunches while you watch TV.
Just say never … Smokers have to commit to never, ever taking another drag of a cigarette. Although we can’t give up eating entirely, for some people, it is helpful to “just say no” to one unhealthy food or ingredient that is a significant contributor to their weight problem.

I lost 30 pounds in three months. If you wanted to know how I did it, and how I intend on maintaining my current weight, then these 50 weight loss tips are for you. I’m not an expert, but I do speak from experience. If it helps you attain your own weight loss goals, then I’m happy to have helped (if only to serve as a reinforcement of knowledge you already possess). Most of this, I learned on my own or through close friends and family members. Feel free to add your own tips to this list, too!

1. Dietary control and exercise. It’s true what they say – all you need to do is watch what you eat, and expend more energy than you consume. It’s really that simple. You can quit reading this list now, you now know everything you need to know and didn’t need to fork over $500 for the privilege of me telling you the secret of losing weight. You don’t need to read a 4,000 page book, you don’t have to buy a tape series, you don’t need to stay up late at night to watch infomercials to understand this basic premise. It’s 100% true.
2. Change your lifestyle. If you’re calling this a “diet,” then you’re going to gain all the weight back (and more) within a few months of losing it. Diets do not work. Diets are temporary. When you change your dietary lifestyle, however, you’re changing your habits – and you’re putting yourself on track for long-term / continued success and weight maintenance. Don’t ever tell anybody you’re on a diet – ever. I’m speaking from experience, here – a reformed low-carber. Worked out well for a while, but ultimately failed because my entire lifestyle didn’t change (permanently).
3. Join an online support group. In my case, I created my own – FatBlasters. It’s essential that you not feel alone, and reaching out to friends (new or old) is typically a smart move. I just heard about PeetTrainer, but didn’t know about it when I began down the road to weight loss. You have to know that others are out there for moral support – they know things that you couldn’t possibly know, and they’ve probably been “in your shoes” at some point in the past (or present). Share stories, laughter, tears, successes, and failures – share them. There are thousands of communities out there, so keep looking until you find the one that fits you.
4. Take before and after photos. I know it sucks to see yourself as a chunky monkey (sorry, that’s what I called myself – if only to get myself motivated to meet my weight loss goal). However, there’s no easier way to illustrate your progress. The “after” photos are far more fun to capture and share, admittedly. Find yourself on Flickr! It’s good to see yourself how others see you. Do you like how you look? In many ways, Flickr helped me lose weight.
5. Hire a substitute teacher. Don’t reach for the brands you know and love immediately – or without thinking first. Eggs are “good” for you, but consider using egg substitutes instead (in fact, many restaurants will let you order lower calorie foods). There are countless “lower” alternatives for you to try. If something different doesn’t taste good, by all means – find a better substitute, or eat less of the original. In some cases, the substitute may be worse for you than the regular version of the product. The good news is, healthier choices are silently replacing their “normal” counterparts – and they taste just as nice.
6. Start reading labels. I know it sucks, but you have to do it – and there’s no way to avoid this tip. If you don’t know what you’re putting in your mouth, you’re flying blind. Don’t assume, either – triple-check the ingredients list and serving sizes. You must rely on yourself for this; nobody else is going to be able to lose the weight or do the math for you. It’s not that complicated a task, but it will require effort. If nothing else, just pay attention to the calorie count.
7. What’s so funny about bovines? If you like cheese, you must buy the Laughing Cow brand, and keep several of the suckers in stock at all times. The individually-wrapped wedges make for excellent snacks, and are wonderful when melted over just about anything edible. I’d be careful about straight-up American cheese, though – it’s oil, but not necessarily as good for you as (say) a slice of cheddar would be. I have yet to find something as calorie-light and filling as Laughing Cow (I don’t know how they do it).
8. Tell your family. You’re not going to lose the weight alone, even if you ARE alone in losing the weight. If you’ve got a family at home, talk to them about it – initially, not incessantly. Let them know what you’re going to do, and that you want (and need) their support. If you don’t let them know, you’re running the risk of them inadvertently sabotaging your efforts. You want them to help you get to your goal(s). You want them to share in your happiness when you’ve made it past a certain mark. Who knows? Maybe some of your new habits will rub off on them and they’ll become healthier people, too?
9. Go public. I didn’t want to admit that I had screwed up, but admitting the problem in public was the first step on the path to eventual success. I was now accountable for my actions, and all my friends knew what I was doing. There was no turning back, otherwise I’d be risk damaging my integrity. I didn’t want to disappoint the people who read me on a regular (or semi-regular) basis. Plus, it’s an easy way to find out which of your friends have gone through the process before – and glean tips from their own experiences. Then, other friends might become inspired to do the same thing you’re doing once they see that you’ve taken the first step.
10. Identify your exercise. No exercise was created equal. You might like running, so run. You might like jogging, so jog. You might like stationary bikes, so bike stationarily. Find the one that works best for you – that isn’t too much of a chore for you to do regularly throughout the week. Don’t pick a routine that you don’t like – or you won’t want to do it, and you certainly won’t stick with it for long. I also wouldn’t recommend buying into that whole “no pain, no gain” mantra. I’ve lost weight without hurting myself, and you probably can, too.
11. Become a Gazelle. You’ve probably seen Tony Little on TV, selling his Gazelle glider – a low impact exercise machine. I can tell you: it works. It’s easy on my legs, and really gives me a workout when I apply myself on it. Some people say it’s awkward to use, but I love mine – and would consider recommending no other home exercise equipment at this point. Then again, I’m a wimpy geek who only wants to burn calories.
12. Zone out. There’s a reason why people exercise to their favorite music – listening to external stimulus takes your mind off of the physical activity. That’s the secret to making “exercise time” fly. If you’re concentrating on what your body is doing, the session is going to drag on for what will seem like days. Buy a portable music player, or situate yourself in front of a television.

13. Never count on live programming. It’s important to stimulate your mind while your body is exerting itself in other ways. However, never rely on “what’s on TV or the radio” at the time. Instead of zoning out, you’ll find yourself flipping between channels – and that’s going to make the time drag as much as it would if you weren’t keeping your mind busy in the first place. “Live” is a very bad idea. Go with pre-recorded programming or go without.
14. Video games helped me lose weight. I can keep my balance on the Gazelle (which some might find difficult to do). As such, I plugged an Xbox 360 into the TV and started to play it while I was working out. Immediately, I found that I was sweating more than I was when I was only watching TV passively! The reason boils down to a single word: adrenalin. Now, the only way I’m able to work up a sweat is when I play a fast-paced game on the game console. Yes, even game genre is important; avoid any diversions that require long pauses between tasks. Racing games (like Burnout) have worked very well for me. The more mindless the game, the better your burn, the faster the exercise session will go.
15. Set realistic goals. You can lose 50 pounds in a week if you work out 12 hours a day and eat nothing but celery – but not if you’re human. Slow and steady wins the race. Don’t bite off more than you can chew – literally. Make small goals on your way to the bigger goal(s). In the end, you’ll have achieved more (and more frequently, might I add).
16. Avoid trans fats and high fructose corn syrup. I offer this suggestion for a few reasons. First, they’re not good for you anyway. Second, you’ll eliminate a lot of the “bad foods” outright – no questions asked. You’ll have to become more selective in what you eat by avoiding these two nasty ingredients – which are in more foods than you probably care to know.
17. Don’t always listen to your mate. I’ve already suggested that you tell your family – but sometimes members of your family will try to dissuade you from trying to lose weight. It’s simple: they might not want you to succeed where they may have already failed, whether consciously or inadvertently. Your loss is not always their gain. Watch out for statements like: “You’ve lost enough weight.” or “I like you just the way you are.” Fact of the matter is, if YOU don’t like the way that YOU are – then YOU are going to have to do something about it, no matter what anybody says. They still love you, though (in theory).
18. Don’t compare yourself to others. Every body is different. It stands to reason that everybody will lose weight differently. Even if you do the exact same things that I do, you won’t lose weight at the same rate. The key is in finding your triggers. Keep your goal in sight, and do whatever you have to do to meet that goal. When you start looking at someone else’s habits, you’re only going to become discouraged and quit without even realizing that it’s physically impossible to be anybody but yourself.
19. Women aren’t men. It’s been proven that men can lose weight more rapidly than women can, which is likely due to our physiological makeup (women are supposed to have more fat than men, because they’re the birthing gender). This isn’t a sexist statement to make – it’s pretty much the truth. As such, females should expect to set separate goals than males – especially if you’re working on losing weight together, side by side.
20. Take a magic pill. Nonsense! There is no such thing as a magic pill. Don’t fall victim to the hype of the latest fat-burning drug commercial. If you listen or read closely, you’ll see that every single one of these things is effective when combined with proper diet and exercise (which they even state in their advertisements). The side-effects for these drugs are usually worse than your additional weight, anyway.
21. Vitamins are good for you. If you’re going to take any pills, let them be natural supplements (like Essential Fatty Acids or multivitamins). Be careful about overdoing it, though – especially with herbal remedies. Too much of anything is a bad thing. You can consult a nutritionist, but always buy on your own – and keep these supplements to a minimum. Remember, too, that specific vitamins are no good without specific minerals.
22. Deck your desktop. In the beginning, some of my friends sent me complicated spreadsheets to help chart progress. Uh, no – not for me; I’m the kind of guy who likes taking the easy route. As such, I scoured the Web for the best desktop tool and remembered CalorieKing. You won’t find anything easier to use. Trust me, this is the one; I can keep track of everything I eat and expend (without hassle). While the statistic-addicts will love CalorieKing for its thoroughness, the utility was truly designed with non-geeks in mind. The CalorieKing Web site and service are fine on their own, but the downloadable client is what you really want to get. Pay the registration fee, man – how much is your health worth to you?
23. Identify your ideal weight. If you’re 5′5″ with a certain build, there’s an ideal weight that matches your body type. Find it – and make that your goal. And if you don’t know what that might be, try searching the Web for a calculator (though results and calculations will vary by a small margin). Now you have a weight goal to shoot for.
24. Consider the source. I’m going to make a gross generalization here, but… why would I trust an overweight doctor or nutritionist to give me proper advice on weight loss? “Do as I say and not as I do” is not a maxim I’m willing to accept from anybody who would be qualified to tell me how to do something. Talk to people who are doing it, or who have done it and been successful. You don’t have to mirror their regimen, but at least you’re getting help from someone who’s really been there. Or, as they said in the Christmas episode of “Two and a Half Men,” people who live in fat asses shouldn’t throw waffles.
25. Ignore Ronald McDonald. You don’t have to eliminate fast food completely, but you should avoid it at all costs. Most of it is nasty, bad stuff anyway – if you’d even go as far as to call it food. If you’re looking for convenience, find a more convenient meal source. Besides, most of what they serve would be considered “food product,” not food. There’s a gigantic difference as far as your body is concerned. Your bloodstream does not have taste buds, need I remind you?
26. Scale up. If your measurement tool sucks, upgrade it. If it’s analog, dump it. I’ve talked to many geeks about their choice in scales, and most of them (myself included) recommend something in the Tanita family. They’re high-quality, rugged, accurate devices. Make sure you set your scale on a hard surface, too (as carpet foundations do not make for accurate weight measurements).
27. Watch your weight. Some people say that you shouldn’t weigh yourself more than once a week. I’ve been much happier charting my progress every day. No matter what, you need to weigh in at the same time, every time. For me, that’s 10am every morning (or somewhere thereabout). If you decide to weigh yourself every single day, understand that your weight will fluctuate by one or two pounds – and that you should only keep a serious eye on the lengthier trends.
28. One pound a week. If you’re not losing at least one pound a week on your chosen weight loss regimen, you’re (a) stalled, or (b) finished. You might need to push yourself even harder, or (in some cases) let up a little bit while your body plays catch-up. If you lose more than one pound a week, then you’re doing better than average. Expecting to lose five pounds a week just isn’t realistic, though.
29. Maintain your priorities. Sure, your sandwich would taste amazing with an extra tablespoon of mayonnaise… but do you really need it? Rather, is it more important for you to reach your weight loss goal quicker – or have this sandwich taste marginally better? What’ll happen the next time you’re faced with this decision – will you cave again? It’s a slippery slope; don’t lose sight of what’s most important to you.
30. All weight is not equal. Muscle weighs more than fat, but the last thing you want to lose is muscle! For this reason alone, it’s important to have a regular exercise routine somewhere in your schedule. Without exercise, your body is going to burn through muscle first – and you’ll wind up more imbalanced than you were to begin with. You want your body to burn fat, not muscle. You want to lose weight, but you want to lose “fat” weight – not muscle mass.
31. Counteract the “Rainy Day” principle. If you decrease your calorie count without necessarily increasing your physical activity level, your body is going to crash. It’s going to say to itself: “Holy sh*t! I better store these calories as fat, because I’m not getting enough of them – and I don’t want to die.” When you exercise, you set your body’s process to “burn” instead of “save.”
32. Don’t overdo it. If you change something in your lifestyle, you’re probably going to see results – but there’s a law of diminishing returns at play. You can exercise for an extra hour a day for a week and still lose the same amount as you had when you were only exercising half as much. Give your body time to adjust – don’t push yourself too hard or you’re just going to spend your energy on something that’s not necessarily going to give you immediate and direct benefit. This, of course, only applies to those of you wanting to lose fat – not for those who are training for a triathlon.

May the policy owner borrow money from the whole life policy?
Generally, yes, to the extent that there are sufficient funds in the cash value to secure the loan. There may be a waiting period of up to three years before a loan is available. If the policy owner borrows from the policy, the cash value is used as collateral, and interest is charged at the rate specified or described in the policy. Well, I have one for you: life insurance. Protecting your loved ones with a term life insurance policy costs one-third less than it did just a decade ago.

That makes life insurance a great deal for anyone who needs to purchase a new policy, but folks who already have a policy can save, too, if they ditch their old, expensive policy and take out a new one. Of course, that only makes sense if the insured is still in good health. And remember: Never cancel an old policy until you have been approved for a new policy, have paid your first premium, and the new policy is active.

How to Save a Bundle on Your Life

Let's say that 10 years ago a healthy 30-year-old guy bought a 20-year level term insurance policy with a $500,000 death benefit. Translation: He bought insurance for 20 years and agreed to pay an annual premium that would not rise in that time. If he dies during the 20-year period, his beneficiaries get a $500,000 payout. If he's still alive after 20 years, the policy expires with no payout to anyone.

This policy has an annual premium of $455 a year, according to the folks at AccuQuote, an online life insurance firm. But if the same fellow, now 40 and still in good health, wanted to save a bundle, he could take out a new 10-year, $500,000 level term policy and pay just $295 a year. That's a 35 percent saving!

Or, if he decides to extend the duration of his insurance, he could add an extra 10 years to his current coverage. So instead of taking out a new 10-year policy, he would go for a new 20-year policy. The cost: $470 a year. He just bought an extra 10 years of coverage for only $15 more a year than he paid on the policy he bought in 1996.

The cheap cost of term life insurance is further evidence that permanent life insurance -- also called cash value insurance -- is in most cases a supreme waste of money.

Insurance agents love to sell cash value policies because they cost a lot more, and agents are compensated by a commission on what they sell. According to AccuQuote, a 30-year-old buying a $500,000 whole life insurance policy -- a popular type of permanent insurance -- would pay a $4,505 annual premium. The same 30-year-old who buys a 20-year level term policy today will pay just $355 a year.

Here's what the agent selling the permanent policy isn't saying: You rarely need insurance forever. Life insurance is only needed to provide protection in the early stages of your life, when you have yet to build up other assets. It's only in rare cases -- if you have a disabled child who may survive you, say, or a very large estate that requires some tax planning -- that a permanent policy might make sense. For the vast majority of us, term insurance is the only logical choice.

It's true that a permanent policy is good forever -- as long as you keep paying the premiums, your policy will remain in force. With a term policy, your coverage stops after the end of the term. And, yes, it's also true that there's an investment component to permanent policies. But as you'll see, it's not a good deal.

The Best Deal

The difference between the $355 premium you as a healthy 30-year-old would pay today for a $500,000 term policy, and the $4,505 you would pay for a whole life policy, is $4,150 a year. If you opted for the term policy and invested the $4,150 you "saved" by not going for the whole life policy, and earned an average of 8 percent a year, you would have about $202,000 after 20 years.

That $202,000 is a nice bit of savings to protect your family after your insurance runs out. Moreover, it exceeds the value of the permanent policy; after 20 years, the cash value of the whole life policy is $110,200. So you would make nearly $100,000 more by investing on your own. Even better, if you leave the $202,000 to grow at an average rate of 8 percent a year -- without investing a penny more -- you would have more than $2 million by age 80.

I can hear the insurance agents howling, "Oh, sure, but you will have to pay tax on that $2 million."

Wrong again. First, if you are eligible to invest in a Roth IRA, you could have the money grow tax deferred, and then you could withdraw the money in retirement absolutely tax-free. Yes, I realize that the maximum annual contribution is $4,000 for individuals under 50 but if you invest $4,000 rather than $4,150, you still end up with $1.9 million at age 80.

The whole point of this saving is not to have money for yourself, but to build assets for your survivors. Given that scenario, taxes aren't an issue: even if you invest in a regular taxable account, your heirs receive the money on a stepped-up basis, meaning they have no tax bill when they inherit the money.

A Third Option -- If You Must

If you absolutely need to know that you'll "get something back" from an insurance policy, take a look at a term policy that offers a return of premium. I'm not a huge fan of these, but they're a better deal than permanent insurance. As the name implies, with a term ROP policy you'll get your premiums back at the end of the policy term.

The catch is that a ROP term policy costs a lot more than a simple term policy. A 20-year, $500,000 level term policy with an ROP will cost $750 a year for a healthy 30-year-old. That's more than double the $355 it would cost to stick with a simple term policy. But at least it's a lot less than the $4,505 for the whole life policy.

Let's take one more trip to the chalkboard (sorry, I couldn't resist): For 20 years, you pay the $750 annual premium, and if you are alive after 20 years the insurer will pay you $15,000 -- the sum of all your premiums.

But don't pat yourself on the back just yet. If you opt for the simple term policy that runs $355 a year instead, and invest the $395 difference ($750 - $355 = $395), you'll have more than $19,000 saved up in 20 years, assuming an average annual return of 8 percent.

Yes, an ROP term life policy is a better deal than cash value insurance, but for my money, the best deal is still a simple no-frills term policy.

There are three basic life insurance types. These are (1) whole life, (2) term life, and (3) universal life insurance.

Whole life insurance is also known as permanent life insurance. These policies cover you for a lifetime (that is, as long as the premiums are paid). Not only do these policies make a payout to your beneficiary(ies) upon your death, they also have the capability to build up a cash value. You have the option to borrow from that cash value and still have the death benefit for your beneficiary(ies). The cash value can also be used to pay a few of the premiums during difficult times. The premiums for the Whole Life policy are usually higher than a comparable Term Life policy.

Term life insurance is considered temporary life insurance. It normally covers you for a set number of years (5, 10, 20, or maybe even 30) as long as the premiums are paid. Term life builds up no cash value. Term life is usually used to cover specific liabilities you have in your lifetime. These liabilities may be to secure the purchase of a new house or a new car. That way, if you die, your family will not have to worry about losing their home or transportation. Term Life is generally purchased by a younger group as the cost of premiums goes up with every year you wait. The younger you are, the cheaper the policy.

Universal life insurance is the most flexible of the three basic plans. Universal life not only provides the death benefit, it also builds in a protective cash value. The owner is allowed to invest a certain percentage in stocks, bonds or mortgages in order to increase the cash value in place of the dividends paid into the whole life plan. The premiums vary greatly according to how aggressive the policy owner is willing to be and the coverage they are setting up

There are variations on these three basic plans, such as Variable Universal Life, Return of Premium Term Life, and Temporary Term Life. Parents frequently take out a 20 year term life plan on their children in order to cover them until they become old enough to take out their own plan.

In addition to the basic plans, there are also Travel Life Insurance, Accidental Death Plan, Limited-Pay Plan and Endowments. The younger you are when you take out the plan, the cheaper the premiums. Make sure your family is protected in case something happens to you. Don't leave your wife and child unprotected and homeless. Make sure they will be protected when you are not here to protect them yourself.

TYPES OF TERM LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES

Term life insurance is, by definition, temporary insurance. Each year, a premium is paid to cover the risk of death during that year. Term life insurance has no cash value. The only way to collect anything is to die before the term life insurance expires. If death occurs, the life insurance beneficiary generally collects the death benefit of the life insurance policy, free of income tax.

Annually renewable term life insurance
Historically, a term life insurance rate increased each year as the risk of death became greater. While unpopular, this type of life insurance policy is still available and is commonly referred to as annually renewable term life insurance (ART).

Guaranteed level term life insurance
Many insurance companies now also offer level term life insurance. This type of life insurance policy has premiums that are designed to remain level for a period of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or even 30 years. Level term life insurance policies have become extremely popular because they are very inexpensive and can provide relatively long term coverage. But, be careful! Most level term life insurance policies contain a guarantee of level premiums. However some policies don't provide such guarantees. Without a guarantee, the life insurance company can surprise you by raising your life insurance rate, even during the time in which you expected your premiums to remain level. Needless to say, it is important to make sure that you understand the terms of any life insurance policy you are considering.

Return of premium term life insurance
Return of premium term life insurance (ROP) is a relatively new type of life insurance policy that offers a guaranteed refund of the life insurance premiums at the end of the term period assuming the insured is still living. This type of term life insurance policy is a bit more expensive than regular term life insurance, but the premiums are designed to remain level. These return of premium term life insurance policies are available in 15, 20, or 30-year term versions. Consumer interest in these plans has continued to grow each year, as they are often significantly less expensive than permanent types of life insurance, yet, like many permanent plans, they still may offer cash surrender values if the insured doesn't die.

TYPES OF PERMANENT LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES

A permanent life insurance policy is a policy that provides life insurance coverage throughout the insured's lifetime – the policy never ends as long as the premiums are paid. In addition, a permanent life insurance policy provides a savings element that builds cash value.

Whole life insurance
Whole life insurance is a type of permanent life insurance, and is designed to remain in effect throughout one's lifetime. It is well suited to needs that do not diminish over time, such as paying estate settlement costs and taxes. Generally, the life insurance rate (or premium) for this type of policy remains the same throughout the life of the insured. During the early years of the life insurance policy, premiums are much higher than those of a term life insurance policy. As a result, and by design, these life insurance policies develop cash values which can be accessed by the owner of the policy through surrenders or policy loans.
Cash values in whole life insurance policies typically include two components:

Each life insurance policy has a guaranteed cash value, which typically grows based on a pre-determined schedule during the life of the policy and which "endows" or equals the death benefit upon maturity of the policy (typically at age 100).
In addition, most whole life insurance policies have a non-guaranteed cash value element, typically made up of "dividends" or "excess interest" which can enhance the value of the life insurance policy over time.

Universal life insurance
Universal life insurance differs from whole life insurance in that this type of life insurance policy distinguishes and itemizes the protection element (death benefit), the expense element, and the cash value element. By separating the three elements, the insurance company can build more flexibility into the life insurance policy. This flexibility allows (within certain guidelines) the life insurance policy owner to modify the face amount or the premium in response to changing needs and circumstances.

Here's how this type of permanent life insurance policy works:

Premiums are credited to the policy as they are paid. Most plans deduct certain administrative charges from the premium before crediting the balance to the policy value as net premiums.
Each month, the insurance company deducts certain amounts from the policy value to cover the costs of mortality (death benefits), as well as for any riders and/or supplemental benefits.
Also, each month, interest is credited to the policy based upon the cash value in the policy and based on a current declared interest rate as determined by the insurance company. This rate can and will change periodically.

Most policies also have a decreasing surrender charge which is deducted from the cash value if the policy is surrendered. This feature allows the insurance company to recover certain expenses which are associated with the issue of the policy. The surrender value is the cash value less any applicable surrender charge.

To age 100 level guaranteed life insurance
This type of life insurance policy offers a guaranteed level premium to age 100, along with a guaranteed level death benefit to age 100. Most often, this is accomplished within a Universal Life policy, with the addition of a feature commonly known as a "no-lapse rider". Some, but not all, of these plans also include an "extension of maturity" feature, which provides that if the insured lives to age 100, having paid the "no-lapse" premiums each year, the full face amount of coverage will continue on a guaranteed basis at no charge thereafter.

Survivorship or 2nd-to-die life insurance
A survivorship life insurance policy, also called 2nd-to-die life insurance, is a type of coverage that is generally offered either as universal life or whole life insurance and pays a death benefit at the later death of two insured individuals, usually a husband and wife. It has become extremely popular with wealthy individuals since the mid-1980's as a method of discounting their inevitable future estate tax liabilities which can, in effect, confiscate an amount to over half of a family's entire net worth!

Congress instituted an unlimited marital deduction in 1981. As a result, most individuals arrange their affairs in a manner such that they delay the payment of any estate taxes until the second insured's death. A "2nd-to-die" life insurance policy allows the insurance company to delay the payment of the death benefit until the second insured's death, thereby creating the necessary dollars to pay the taxes exactly when they are needed! General Information About Malignant Mesothelioma

Malignant mesothelioma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the lining of the chest or abdomen.

Malignant mesothelioma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells are found in the pleura (the thin layer of tissue that lines the chest cavity and covers the lungs) or the peritoneum (the thin layer of tissue that lines the abdomen and covers most of the organs in the abdomen). This summary is about malignant mesothelioma of the pleura.

Being exposed to asbestos can affect the risk of developing malignant mesothelioma.

Anything that increases your chance of getting a disease is called a risk factor. Having a risk factor does not mean that you will get cancer; not having risk factors doesn't mean that you will not get cancer. People who think they may be at risk should discuss this with their doctor.

Many people with malignant mesothelioma have worked or lived in places where they inhaled or swallowed asbestos. After being exposed to asbestos, it usually takes a long time for malignant mesothelioma to occur. Other risk factors for malignant mesothelioma include the following:

Living with a person who works near asbestos.
Being exposed to a certain virus.

Possible signs of malignant mesothelioma include shortness of breath and pain under the rib cage.

Sometimes the cancer causes fluid to collect around the lung or in the abdomen. These symptoms may be caused by the fluid or malignant mesothelioma. Other conditions may cause the same symptoms. A doctor should be consulted if any of the following problems occur:

Trouble breathing.
Pain under the rib cage.
Pain or swelling in the abdomen.
Lumps in the abdomen.
Weight loss for no known reason.

Tests that examine the inside of the chest and abdomen are used to detect (find) and diagnose malignant mesothelioma.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer. The following tests and procedures may be used:

Physical exam and history: An exam of the body to check general signs of health, including checking for signs of disease, such as lumps or anything else that seems unusual. A history of the patient's health habits, exposure to asbestos, past illnesses and treatments will also be taken.
Chest x-ray: An x-ray of the organs and bones inside the chest. An x-ray is a type of energy beam that can go through the body and onto film, making a picture of areas inside the body.

X-ray of the chest. X-rays are used to take pictures of organs and bones of the chest. X-rays pass through the patient onto film.
Complete blood count (CBC): A procedure in which a sample of blood is drawn and checked for the following:
- The number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
- The amount of hemoglobin (the protein that carries oxygen) in the red blood cells.
- The portion of the blood sample made up of red blood cells.
Sedimentation rate: A procedure in which a sample of blood is drawn and checked for the rate at which the red blood cells settle to the bottom of the test tube.
Biopsy: The removal of cells or tissues from the pleura or peritoneum so they can be viewed under a microscope by a pathologist to check for signs of cancer. Procedures used to collect the cells or tissues include the following:
- Fine-needle (FNA) aspiration biopsy of the lung: The removal of tissue or fluid using a thin needle. An imaging procedure is used to locate the abnormal tissue or fluid in the lung. A small incision may be made in the skin where the biopsy needle is inserted into the abnormal tissue or fluid, and a sample is removed.
  
  Lung biopsy. The patient lies on a table that slides through the computed tomography (CT) machine which takes x-ray pictures of the inside of the body. The x-ray pictures help the doctor see where the abnormal tissue is in the lung. A biopsy needle is inserted through the chest wall and into the area of abnormal lung tissue. A small piece of tissue is removed through the needle and checked under the microscope for signs of cancer.
- Thoracoscopy: An incision (cut) is made between two ribs and a thoracoscope (a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing) is inserted into the chest.
- Peritoneoscopy: An incision (cut) is made in the abdominal wall and a peritoneoscope (a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing) is inserted into the abdomen.
- Laparotomy: An incision (cut) is made in the wall of the abdomen to check the inside of the abdomen for signs of disease.
- Thoracotomy: An incision (cut) is made between two ribs to check inside the chest for signs of disease.
Bronchoscopy: A procedure to look inside the trachea and large airways in the lung for abnormal areas. A bronchoscope is inserted through the nose or mouth into the trachea and lungs. A bronchoscope is a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing. It may also have a tool to remove tissue samples, which are checked under a microscope for signs of cancer.

Bronchoscopy. A bronchoscope is inserted through the mouth, trachea, and major bronchi into the lung, to look for abnormal areas. A bronchoscope is a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing. It may also have a cutting tool. Tissue samples may be taken to be checked under a microscope for signs of disease.
Cytologic exam: An exam of cells under a microscope (by a pathologist) to check for anything abnormal. For mesothelioma, fluid is taken from around the lungs or from the abdomen. A pathologist checks the cells in the fluid.

Certain factors affect prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options.

The prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options depend on the following:

The stage of the cancer.
The size of the tumor.
Whether the tumor can be removed completely by surgery.
The amount of fluid in the chest or abdomen.
The patient's age and general health, including lung and heart health.
The type of mesothelioma cancer cells and how they look under a microscope.
Whether the cancer has just been diagnosed or has recurred (come back).

Stages of Malignant Mesothelioma

After malignant mesothelioma has been diagnosed, tests are done to find out if cancer cells have spread to other parts of the body.

The process used to find out if cancer has spread outside the pleura or peritoneum is called staging. The information gathered from the staging process determines the stage of the disease. It is important to know the spread of the cancer in order to plan treatment. The following tests and procedures may be used in the staging process:

Chest x-ray: An x-ray of the organs and bones inside the chest. An x-ray is a type of energy beam that can go through the body and onto film, making a picture of areas inside the body.
CT scan (CAT scan): A procedure that makes a series of detailed pictures of the chest and abdomen, taken from different angles. The pictures are made by a computer linked to an x-ray machine. A dye may be injected into a vein or swallowed to help the organs or tissues show up more clearly. This procedure is also called computed tomography, computerized tomography, or computerized axial tomography.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging): A procedure that uses a magnet, radio waves, and a computer to make a series of detailed pictures of the chest or abdomen. This procedure is also called nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI).
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS): A procedure in which an endoscope is inserted into the body. An endoscope is a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing. A probe at the end of the endoscope is used to bounce high-energy sound waves (ultrasound) off internal tissues or organs and make echoes. The echoes form a picture of body tissues called a sonogram. This procedure is also called endosonography. EUS may be used to guide fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy of the lung, lymph nodes, or other areas.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy. An endoscope that has an ultrasound probe and a biopsy needle is inserted through the mouth and into the esophagus. The probe bounces sound waves off body tissues to make echoes that form a sonogram (computer picture) of the lymph nodes near the esophagus. The sonogram helps the doctor see where to place the biopsy needle to remove tissue from the lymph nodes. This tissue is checked under a microscope for signs of cancer.

There are three ways that cancer spreads in the body.

The three ways that cancer spreads in the body are:

Through tissue. Cancer invades the surrounding normal tissue.
Through the lymph system. Cancer invades the lymph system and travels through the lymph vessels to other places in the body.
Through the blood. Cancer invades the veins and capillaries and travels through the blood to other places in the body.

When cancer cells break away from the primary (original) tumor and travel through the lymph or blood to other places in the body, another (secondary) tumor may form. This process is called metastasis. The secondary (metastatic) tumor is the same type of cancer as the primary tumor. For example, if breast cancer spreads to the bones, the cancer cells in the bones are actually breast cancer cells. The disease is metastatic breast cancer, not bone cancer.

The stages of malignant mesothelioma are divided into two groups.

Malignant mesothelioma stages are grouped into localized and advanced.

Localized malignant mesothelioma (stage I)

In localized malignant mesothelioma, cancer is found in the lining of the chest wall and may also be found in the lining of the lung, the lining of the diaphragm, or the lining of the sac that covers the heart on the same side of the chest.

Advanced malignant mesothelioma (stage II, stage III, and stage IV)

Advanced malignant mesothelioma includes stage II, stage III, and stage IV.

In stage II, cancer is found in the lining of the chest wall and the lymph nodes on the same side of the chest. Cancer may also be found in the lining of the lung, the lining of the diaphragm, or the lining of the sac that covers the heart on the same side of the chest.
In stage III, cancer has spread to any of the following areas:
- The chest wall.
- The mediastinum.
- The heart.
- Beyond the diaphragm.
- The peritoneum.
Cancer may have also spread to lymph nodes on the other side of the chest or outside the chest.
In stage IV, cancer has spread to distant organs or tissues.

Recurrent Malignant Mesothelioma

Recurrent malignant mesothelioma is cancer that has recurred (come back) after it has been treated. The cancer may come back in the chest or abdomen or in other parts of the body.

Treatment Option Overview

There are different types of treatment for patients with malignant mesothelioma.

Different types of treatments are available for patients with malignant mesothelioma. Some treatments are standard (the currently used treatment), and some are being tested in clinical trials. A treatment clinical trial is a research study meant to help improve current treatments or obtain information on new treatments for patients with cancer. When clinical trials show that a new treatment is better than the standard treatment, the new treatment may become the standard treatment. Patients may want to think about taking part in a clinical trial. Some clinical trials are open only to patients who have not started treatment.

Three types of standard treatment are used:

Surgery

The following surgical treatments may be used for malignant mesothelioma:

Wide local excision: Surgery to remove the cancer and some of the healthy tissue around it.
Pleurectomy and decortication: Surgery to remove part of the covering of the lungs and lining of the chest and part of the outside surface of the lungs.
Extrapleural pneumonectomy: Surgery to remove one whole lung and part of the lining of the chest, the diaphragm, and the lining of the sac around the heart.
Pleurodesis: A surgical procedure that uses chemicals or drugs to make a scar in the space between the layers of the pleura. Fluid is first drained from the space using a catheter or chest tube and the chemical or drug is put into the space. The scarring stops the build-up of fluid in the pleural cavity.

Even if the doctor removes all the cancer that can be seen at the time of the surgery, some patients may be given chemotherapy or radiation therapy after surgery to kill any cancer cells that are left. Treatment given after surgery, to increase the chances of a cure, is called adjuvant therapy.

Radiation therapy

Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high-energy x-rays or other types of radiation to kill cancer cells or keep them from growing. There are two types of radiation therapy. External radiation therapy uses a machine outside the body to send radiation toward the cancer. Internal radiation therapy uses a radioactive substance sealed in needles, seeds, wires, or catheters that are placed directly into or near the cancer. The way the radiation therapy is given depends on the type and stage of the cancer being treated.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. When chemotherapy is taken by mouth or injected into a vein or muscle, the drugs enter the bloodstream and can reach cancer cells throughout the body (systemic chemotherapy). When chemotherapy is placed directly into the spinal column, an organ, or a body cavity such as the abdomen, the drugs mainly affect cancer cells in those areas (regional chemotherapy). Combination chemotherapy is the use of more than one anticancer drug. The way the chemotherapy is given depends on the type and stage of the cancer being treated.

New types of treatment are being tested in clinical trials.

Biologic therapy

Biologic therapy is a treatment that uses the patient's immune system to fight cancer. Substances made by the body or made in a laboratory are used to boost, direct, or restore the body's natural defenses against cancer. This type of cancer treatment is also called biotherapy or immunotherapy.

Patients may want to think about taking part in a clinical trial.

For some patients, taking part in a clinical trial may be the best treatment choice. Clinical trials are part of the cancer research process. Clinical trials are done to find out if new cancer treatments are safe and effective or better than the standard treatment.

Many of today's standard treatments for cancer are based on earlier clinical trials. Patients who take part in a clinical trial may receive the standard treatment or be among the first to receive a new treatment.

Patients who take part in clinical trials also help improve the way cancer will be treated in the future. Even when clinical trials do not lead to effective new treatments, they often answer important questions and help move research forward.

Patients can enter clinical trials before, during, or after starting their cancer treatment.

Some clinical trials only include patients who have not yet received treatment. Other trials test treatments for patients whose cancer has not gotten better. There are also clinical trials that test new ways to stop cancer from recurring (coming back) or reduce the side effects of cancer treatment.

Clinical trials are taking place in many parts of the country. See the Treatment Options section that follows for links to current treatment clinical trials. These have been retrieved from NCI's clinical trials database.

Follow-up tests may be needed.

Some of the tests that were done to diagnose the cancer or to find out the stage of the cancer may be repeated. Some tests will be repeated in order to see how well the treatment is working. Decisions about whether to continue, change, or stop treatment may be based on the results of these tests. This is sometimes called re-staging.

Some of the tests will continue to be done from time to time after treatment has ended. The results of these tests can show if your condition has changed or if the cancer has recurred (come back). These tests are sometimes called follow-up tests or check-ups.

Treatment Options for Malignant Mesothelioma

First Microsoft tries to buy Yahoo!, now Yahoo! raises their domain renewal rates.

If this is accurate would this be considered Highway Robbery? Or do they think their customers are fools? Can they really justify that large an increase? Or are they just being greedy and hope their customers don't Google for GoDaddy.com?

Apparently the above quote was sent by email to people who have their domains registered with Yahoo! I'm not one of them. But I just visited their site and they make absolutely no mention of the increase. They do have a plan that has domain name plus email for $34.95 a year

Im not sure if many people know this but Megaupload download limits can be bypassed with many ways. A completely free, easy way is by having a free Megaupload account and the Megaupload Toolbar.

1) Create an account at Megaupload.
2) Download and install the Megaupload Toolbar that is also there. It is usually on the right hand side of the mainpage and looks like an advertisment.

3) When you max out your free account downloading, on your newly added Toolbar you should see something that looks like this.

4) Click that extend button. And BANG no download limit anymore.

Now I promised that you would get a premium account for a few hours each day. Between the hours of 8:00pm and 2:00 (CST) or 9:00pm and 3:00 (EST) you can upgrade your free membership to a premium account!!

Problems with Go Daddy Hosting

When you call Go Daddy for customer service (it's not toll-free), it takes at least 20 minutes for the reps to solve the simplest problems. They gave me incorrect information, messed up my account and told me that I have to pay more money for them to fix the problem that they caused. I wrote a letter to their president and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I haven't heard from the president yet but I am done with the company no matter what. We have to start reporting problems regarding hosting companies with the BBB, www.bbb.com, because when only one person complains, the host companies don't care and just blow us off. But if we start holding them accountable for unmet promises, they will start to give more consideration to good customer service. I'm not sure what company I'm going to next but I will cancel with Go Daddy in a few days. If they have any decency they'll give me a full refund. I hope you're having better hosting luck than me

Problems with Go Daddy Hosting

More on my problem with Go Daddy... I call several times for non-toll free tech support and their reps can't even answer simple questions. For one problem in particular, I have their service to receive traffic facts as part of my plan. They didn't tell me at first that the traffic facts were different than the generic web stats that were provided. One rep couldn't figure this out after a 20 minute call so I just gave up. Then I called again on another day and after another 20 minutes, another rep finally told me that I have to go to the company's website for traffic facts. When I couldn't login with my account login, the rep had me reset all of my passwords and try all of them to get me in. When that didn't work, the rep told me to click on "cancel traffic facts" and then he would reset it. I followed his instructions but he never reset it. When I asked him how I would retrieve my information, he got confused and put me on hold for about 15 minutes to try to figure it out (remember, I'm paying for the call - it wasn't toll free). Then I politely asked to speak to a supervisor. I was placed on hold for another 30 minutes so I hung up and called back. I was on hold for another 30 minutes so I hung up again. Then I called back and was finally transferred to a supervisor. When I told him how long I was on hold, he responded "Well, I just walked in". When I told him that I should have been informed that no supervisor was available instead of being on hold for all of that time, he ignored me. Then he said he'll escalate the problem to try to fix it. A few seconds later, he emails me and tells me that in order for him to fix the problem, I would have to sign up for one more month of service. I've never heard of such a thing. So I told him to just forget it and told him that I would just write a letter to his president and to the Better Business Bureau. I cannot believe their complete disregard for customers and total lack of technical knowledge on a service that they provide. I've learned my lesson about BAD HOST

ATI has decided to increase the prices of Radeon HD 5850 cards due to huge demand and effective immediately the Radeon 5850 will cost any given partner some $15 to $20 more.

AMD / ATI still has an good supply of HD 5850 and since HD 5870 are very tough to get, they simply decided to try to make more money. The fact that GTX 260 and 285 are also insanely hard to find and that Fermi is still not out, helps ATI jack the prices up.

High end supply from both Nvidia and ATI was not this weak for years, as this time both companies are not executing well. Before, if one company didn't manage to have enough cards, the other one would win that business over, but this time, we are talking about both players failing to have enough high end cards.
